Brookline Residents Speak Out
“What makes you excited about this project?”
Over 140 people have signed the petition! Here are a few things they had to say in support for the pool project:
“An outdoor pool would be a fantastic community resource. Learning to swim is a critical life safety skill, and swimming is outstanding excercise for a broad range of people. A new outdoor pool would offer expanded opportunities to engage in these pursuits and provide a valuable social gathering space for the community.” – Daniel R.
“Hotter summers, increasing health restrictions at beaches and ponds, no affordable options for locals who cannot access private clubs, overcrowding at other area pools – this is a great, great idea!” -Nicole K.
“I am a Town Meeting Member… a former triathlete, and now a parent paying exorbitant private tuition for swim lessons for my kids, ages 5 and 3… A public pool that would provide me with swimming access AND give my children access to more affordable swim and water safety classes would be a great benefit to my family. We’ve tried to access swim lessons through the Brookline Rec Center by the high school but there is so little access and the wait list is so long.” -Katherine H.
“Having a pool to go when it’s hot out meeting new friends . Taking water classes. Enjoying the exercise of swimming. I love the whole thing about having spool in Brookline.” -Susan S.
“This is an investment from a healthy community standpoint. The benefits are beyond immediately or fiscally quantifiable – it’s vital that we find more ways to bring people of all walks of life together as it creates stronger sense of community and forges discourse and positive relationships” – Liz L.
“Where I grew up in St. Louis, the community pool was a hub of community activity across the generations. It was a source of employment, place to learn CPR, and a place to play, socialize, and find refuge from the heat. We should definitely have one here in Brookline!” -Bettina N.
“We have been paying for day passes to the Needham town pool to keep our family cool this summer. If a community pool existed in Brookline we would certainly purchase a family membership and many of our neighbors feel the same way.” – Lisa K.
“Avid swimmer frustrated by limited access to HS pool lanes. Also, Brookline kids and families need a nearby place to cool off in the summer and the Park School Pool is prohibitively expensive for most.” -Jayne S.
“This is an important project for everyone in Brookline to support. Bringing the community together. Creating jobs, swim lessons, an outdoor community pool for every resident.” -Pamela J.
“A safe, fun and inclusive space for our kids to swim and our neighbors to gather and socialize!” – Alissa H.
