Support via Brookline Community Foundation’s Brookline Community Outdoor Pool Fund.
This fund was created by a group of community members to support the establishment of a public outdoor pool in Brookline. This recreational resource will be accessible to residents of all ages and abilities, will create summer jobs for Brookline youth, will allow more people to learn how to swim, and will become increasingly important given global warming.
What will the funds in the new Brookline Community Pool Fund at the Brookline Community Foundation be used for?
That depends on the need at the time. They can only be paid out to the Town or a non-profit so they could be used to subsidize first year operating costs, before the facility has earned the revenue to cover these costs. Another use could be to help pay for a feasibility or site study. We will work with the Town to determine what makes the most sense and certainly appreciate the support that so many residents have already provided.
You’re collecting these funds at the Community Foundation. What if the pool doesn’t materialize?
We’ve made provisions for that, though we are going to work hard to make it a non issue. In the event that a pool isn’t built in say the next 5-6 years, the funds will be divided equally between the Senior Center, The Teen Center, and the Brookline Food Pantry.
Are you expecting the Pool Fund to contribute all of the capital costs?
No. The pool is a community resource that will be provided by the Town. Our intent is to build a public/private partnership and contribute as we can to help ensure its creation and document, through the number of donors, the community’s long-standing desire to have a public pool.
